Daria Daulat Bagh, Srirangapatna
The Daria Daulat Bagh (Summer Palace) of Tipu Sultan was originally constructed by Tipu Sultan's father Hyder Ali. But he only commenced the construction and late on Tipu Sultan completed it. It is a summer palace and the money that was utilized in its construction was gained entirely from sea trade. It is located on the southern bank of the river Kaveri and it has been constructed in the Saracenic mode of architecture.
After the demise of Tipu Sultan, Colonel Wellesley occupied the palace but due the incessant rain and sunlight the painting was faded and Lord Dalhousie took suitable steps to repaint the walls with the help of an Indian Artist, so that an integral Indian flavor is imparted to them. After the work was completed the Daria Daulat Bagh (Summer Palace) of Tipu Sultan was declared as a National Monument in the year 1959. The halls of Daria Daulat Bagh (Summer Palace) of Tipu Sultan are painted on all side. On the western hall there are pictures of battle fields based on the defeat of Colonel Bailey at Kancheevaram.
